Hi, I’m Mika. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA) specializing in helping individuals navigate anxiety, depression, adjustment challenges, and other struggles that may stem from the long-term impacts of developmental trauma or adverse childhood experiences. I was born in Tokyo and raised between two opposite sides of the world for much of my childhood. This and many other personal experiences have contributed to the unique perspective I hold today, which allowed for a better understanding of diverse and unconventional life experiences.
In my work, I have assisted clients with interpersonal struggles, self-esteem issues, identity exploration, barriers to creativity, and existential concerns. My integrative and holistic approach blends attachment theory with existential and psychodynamic perspectives, while also incorporating techniques from CBT, DBT, and ACT as needed. To put it another way, this means I tend to focus on how early relational experiences have shaped current patterns, and I believe that healing these early wounds can lead to more fulfilling relationships, with the Self and with others. Unaddressed wounds from early years can manifest in a variety of ways, such as in difficulties with accepting praise, feelings of inadequacy, shame, guilt, or even as an immobilizing drive for perfection.
I view therapy as a collaborative process and hold deep respect for your individual experience. I consider my role as offering insights, different perspectives, or simply being a supportive mirror as you grow and overcome challenges. While I provide guidance, I believe that you are the expert of your own experience and hold the key to progress. I am here to support you on your path to growth and well-being.
